Installation - Collaboration Laurencia Strauss, Francisco Huichaqueo and Claudio Marcotulli
Protests in Chile have erupted as people, including indigenous Mapuche, resist decades of repression and advocate for social and environmental rights. There have been conflicts between understanding the intrinsic value of people, land, and water versus seeing only their monetary value, and there have been clashes about concepts of territory. How do these struggles resonate with local issues of ownership and local actions to resist water and land destruction in South Florida? In a collaborative installation, we use sound, text, sculptural objects and multiple projections of documentary video to develop a conversation among our practices and strategies of resistance. Francisco Huichaqueo , Claudio Marcotulli and Laurencia Strauss met in a residency in Chiapas, Mexico focused on the Zapatista movement, the future, and the climate crisis.
