OBSCURA
APRIL 9-30, 2022
EDGE ZONES GALLERY
OPENING: APRIL 9, 7-10PM
With his solo exhibition ‘Obscura’ at Edge Zones Gallery, Claudio Marcotulli punctuates concepts associated with dark energy and matter in space, as well as the various meanings given by people to money. He draws lines of connection between the copper used to make coins and its appearance in space following explosions of supergiant stars. His acrylic-resin compositions and print series reflect on the relations between money, time and space, contrasting celestial motion against the monetary currencies that mobilize life on Earth.
Marcotulli’s work often takes on surreal forms. Resembling black mirrors, his dark resin surfaces play with the viewer’s perception and ideas associated to black holes. Obscura also references the enigmatic life cycles in space, as well as gravity and the nature of light.
